Plowing Now in Cary Subdivisions

Town of Cary A-Team Snow Fighters began plowing in subdivisions just after 1 p.m. using solid waste collection routes to prioritize their work.  The first subdivisions being cleared are those in western Cary so that garbage collection in these areas can take place tomorrow; once these “Tuesday collection” areas have been cleared, crews will move geographically clockwise throughout Cary’s 55 square miles.  Please do not park on streets so that plows and other Town equipment can service the area.

“Our crews are once again doing a fantastic job for our citizens,” said Town of Cary Public Works Director Mike Bajorek.  “We’re very happy with the progress we’re making and appreciate our community’s support.”

Although the snow that began just after midnight has almost stopped and the pavement is showing on most major roads, Cary citizens are encouraged to stay off the streets, especially as nightfall will likely bring dangerous driving conditions.

TRAFFIC ACCIDENTS
There have been a total of 20 traffic accidents reported thus far in Cary, none with serious injuries.

Citizens are reminded of the following tips during inclement weather:

Please do not call 911 unless there is an immediate threat to life, health, or property.  All non-emergency snow calls should be placed to (919) 469-4090; customer service representatives will be staffing the phones during regular business hours, 8 a.m.- 5 p.m.  Complete wintry weather information is also available on the Town’s Web site, www.townofcary.org

Do not attempt to deal with downed limbs or trees on streets or sidewalks as they may be tangled in live power lines. Instead, call the Town at (919) 469-4090.

Be neighborly.  Check on neighbors to make sure that everyone is OK.

Stay indoors during severe winter weather.  If you do decide to venture out—whether walking or driving—let folks know when and where you are going so that they can contact emergency officials should you fail to reach your destination. Take a cell phone just in case.
